SEO Audit

Internal Linking Audit Skill

An internal linking audit workflow to find weak crawl paths, ambiguous anchors and missed contextual links, without reducing the review to raw link counts.

Difficulty

beginner

Works with

crawler export, analytics landing pages, content inventory

Inputs

  • Internal link export
  • canonical URL list
  • priority page list

Outputs

  • Weak-path report
  • anchor review
  • contextual link recommendations

What it does

This skill reviews whether important pages can be reached through clear, contextual HTML links. It combines crawl depth with anchor quality and reader intent.

When to use it

Use it after a content inventory, during a section redesign or before consolidating overlapping pages.

Instructions

Validate canonical URLs first. Then map links into priority pages, out to supporting pages and across adjacent journeys. Recommend a link only when it helps the reader continue a real task.

Prompt and skill content

Review the internal link export against the canonical URL and priority page lists.
Identify orphaned pages, weak crawl paths, non-descriptive anchors and opportunities for contextual links.
Do not recommend links only because two pages share a keyword.
Explain the reader value and navigation purpose of every proposed link.
